Disability Week 2025 Celebrating Strength in Every Ability

Santa Elena Primary School proudly joined families, teachers, and students in honoring Disability Week from November 30 to December 6. This year’s theme Celebrating Strength in Every Ability reminded our entire community that every child carries gifts that enrich our school family.

The week brought special attention to the work of Ms. Celia Monroy and Mrs. Yasmini Caliz, two dedicated educators who serve our Special Education students with patience and passion. Together they support fourteen learners with diverse abilities that include autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, speech challenges, and hearing impairments. Their commitment continues to create a safe and loving environment where every child feels seen and valued.

Throughout the week, teachers highlighted the unique strengths of each student through storytelling, class visits, and awareness activities. Students engaged in simple acts of kindness and encouragement as they learned what inclusion looks like in a school setting.

The administration also used the week to assess the support needed to better serve our Special Education learners. Areas identified include repainting the SPED classroom, repairing the male bathroom, installing two wall fans, and placing Special Education signage to help create a more supportive learning environment.

Disability Week stands as a reminder of what makes Santa Elena Primary School special. When we honor the abilities of every child, we strengthen our entire community. We extend heartfelt appreciation to our teachers, parents, and students for celebrating this important week with openness and compassion.
