Santa Elena Primary School believes in true partnership with families.
Santa Elena Primary School believes that when families are involved children grow stronger, more confident, and more successful. One of the ways we bring families into the heart of learning is by inviting parents and guardians to be present while their child is being assessed.
This meaningful initiative was first championed in our Infant Division under the leadership of Mrs. Golda Gomez. Through her vision and commitment to family partnership, this practice created powerful learning moments where parents could see their babies grow in reading, confidence, and understanding. Because of its success, this approach has now been embraced by the Middle Division, allowing even more families to experience learning in action.
For many parents, school often feels like something that happens behind closed doors. They receive grades and reports but rarely get to see how their child actually reads, thinks, and responds in real time. At Santa Elena Primary School, parents get the opportunity to sit in the classroom and observe their child as they work through a reading passage, answer questions, or demonstrate a skill. They see the effort, the concentration, and the courage it takes for their child to try.
For students, this is a powerful experience. Knowing that a parent is watching encourages them to give their best. They sit taller, read more carefully, and keep going even when a word or question feels challenging. It builds confidence and a sense of pride in their learning.
For parents, it is just as meaningful. They get to see their babies develop their reading and comprehension skills right before their eyes. They can celebrate progress, notice growth, and better understand where extra support may be needed. This creates stronger communication and more focused support at home.
The photos and video shared here show one of these moments with our student Noah Tush, his mom Nidia Rosales and his teacher Tanisha Mccullock. Noah worked with focus and determination as his mom watched with pride and encouragement. It was a beautiful example of how learning becomes even more powerful when family and school come together.
At Santa Elena Primary School, we are proud to grow innovative practices that began in one division and now continue to strengthen our entire school community. Through strong leadership and meaningful partnerships, we are building confident readers, supportive families, and a school where every child is truly seen and supported.
